The School Board voted unanimously on June 23, 2025, to ask voters to consider a $3 million (annual) operating levy on the November 4 General Election ballot in an attempt to maintain what district residents say they value most about Waconia Public Schools:

  • High-quality and experienced teachers and staff

  • A broad range of academic and co-curricular programs

  • Class sizes that foster the best environment for student achievement

What will the money be used for?

If approved by voters, the levy will provide approximately $3 million annually for the Waconia Public Schools’ general fund, equal to $731 per pupil.

This will allow us to Maintain What Matters Most:

  • Prioritizing people

  • Preserving programs

  • Protecting class sizes

A Fiscally Responsible Approach

THE PLAN

What happens if the operating levy referendum is not approved?

The school district will repeat budget reduction process from Spring 2023, but with fewer options left, we know it will impact:

People

  • Staffing reductions

  • Inability to invest in wages/benefits

  • Assignment changes

Programs

  • Reductions to academic and co-curricular programs

  • Reduced supports and opportunities in and out of the classroom

Class Sizes

  • Increased class sizes

  • Reduced secondary offerings/electives
